Mountains and Low Level Walks

Wester Ross is a mountaineers paradise. There are up to 40 Munros, from Hugh Munro's agreed list of separate Scottish Mountains over 3000 feet, for the keen hillwalker. In addition to these you can choose from around 30 Corbetts, hills over 2500 feet, and numerous low level walks to suit all abilities.

Mountains

The Torridon mountain range, Dundonnell hills, Fannich and Ullapool hills, are all within comfortable travelling distance of Cairn Ghlas. These include the spectacular pinnacled ridge of An Teallach to the north and the peaks of Torridon, and Slioch at Loch Maree, to the south. There are routes to suit all tastes in these mountains, including climbing, scambling and high level walking. Hillwalking guides and maps are provided at Cairn Ghlas to help with your choice. Peaks further to the north of Ullapool, including Stac Pollaidh and Suilven can be seen from the front door at Cairn Ghlas.

Low Level Walks

If you do not wish to venture to Munro height, or the weather is not encouraging, there are numerous low level walks or coastal routes, to choose from. Information is provided in the house.

Routes into the mountains can be found within a short distance of Cairn Ghlas. If you do not wish to travel far there are shorter walks around the coast from the house itself.

Scottish National Heritage's Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve visitor centre by Loch Maree offers good starting points for walks and climbs.
